New Cinematographers
The thirty-four film discussions that feature in this book are distilled from over forty hours of interviews with six leading cinematographers. Throughout the interviews and during the daunting task of editing the resulting material, the main aim was to reveal the cinematographers' day-to-day experience of lighting motion pictures while balancing this with useful descriptions of film technique and technology. Each of the book's six main sections is devoted to detailed discussions of up to seven of the cinematographers' key films, which most reflect the diversity and unique craft of their work. Storyboards, lighting diagrams, and images from the cinematographers' own archives have been carefully selected together with screen grabs and images from the archives of directors, producers, production designers, gaffers and grips. Although these illustrations provide the best possible visual glosses to understanding the cinematography of each film, a viewing or re-viewing of each title will complete the process.
